Cady's Alley - Washington, DC
The Fitch Studio
Cady's Alley is the alley between 33rd and 34th, M Street and C&O Canal in DC. The landscape architect worked on the entire site, coordinating with 5 architects in the revival of a series of buildings along this block. The alley which provides front-door entrance to a new series of shops dates to the mid-18th century, providing inspiration for the material palette and patterns on the ground plane.
Jury Comments:
- common urban space, but the elevated attention to detail was very much applauded
- great example of what can be done in a small space
- especially commend the apparent collaborative effort (between LA and architects) in these "interstitial spaces"
