Presidents Letter
Dear Chapter Members:
On behalf of the Chapter Executive Committee, it is an honor to serve as a 2007-2008 Officer. It is a significant legacy to continue - especially in the footsteps of Past-President, Lisa Delplace’s leadership.
This is a critical year for the Chapter.
In 2010, the ASLA National Convention will be held in Washington, DC. Although is seems some time in the future, it is actually very near. Each of us as Chapter members, will be accountable for being the very best stewards of the Convention and hosts to our national and international peers. As a part of the planning for 2010, the Chapter has launched the Time : Space Project as a chronicle of the first-ever published record of people, history and places that represent the past, present and future of the Potomac Chapter. The publication will be distributed at the 2010 ASLA National Meeting as a resource guide and thereafter independently offered by the Potomac Chapter.
The Chapter will continue to promote and host professional education opportunities. This year’s Executive Committee will provide concentrated very high-level programs. In December, 2007 we will gather at the National Museum of Women in the Arts to honor our colleague’s professional and academic excellence at the annual Awards Banquet. We will be offering a number of professional development programs in addition to our annual National Landscape Architecture Month events. Woven into each of the programs will be a discussion forum on www.potomacasla.org that encourages creative thinking, and constructive discourse.
The foremost means for contributing to the Chapter’s success is to participate. Every individual’s involvement in events, committees and projects, builds a stronger foundation for all members and the profession at large. Each of us are busy with our daily lives-work, family, traveling, evening meetings, sitting in traffic - it is the nature of life in the Nation’s Capital. However, we are also responsible to our peers and the future of the profession - so please take on the challenge to serve – if for one reason – on behalf of future Landscape Architects. Start by ensuring that the Chapter stays connected with you by updating your contact information at www.asla.org and clicking on 'Update Your Email Address'. Next, attend the Executive Committee meetings that are held on the third Monday of every month from 6:00 pm to 7:30pm. Meeting locations are rotated to make attendance convenient to a diversity of locales. Forthcoming meetings, events and other information are posted on www.potomacasla.org Check the website often!
2007-2008 promises to be a great year. Join us in meeting the critical challenge.
Respectfully,
Ron M. Kagawa, ASLA
