Individual Recognition
2025 Lifetime Achievement Award – Roger Courtenay, FASLA
Roger Courtenay, FASLA, was principal and vice-president with AECom. With over 40 years of landscape architecture, urban design and planning experience regionally, nationally, and internationally, Roger is an award-winning landscape architect with notable projects at the Smithsonian, Botanic Gardens and other memorials on the National Mall.
The POASLA Foundation presented the 2025 Scholarship to Ruth Shatkay (left in picture), University of Virginia. Ruth is a graduate student at UVA, Landscape Architecture. One area on which Ruth intends to focus professionally is the relationship between landscape architecture and forestry, and spatial opportunities that can come from working with young and teenage trees, seeing ways that minimize material flows, increase survival and growth rates, and result in spaces that are engaging and interesting to visitors.
