Habitat House

Project: Habitat House

2018 Merit Award for Built Design

Presented to Jordan Honeyman Landscape Architecture LLC

2018 Merit Award Winners, Jordan Honeyman Landscape Architecture designed a series of bio-habitats at ‘Habitat House’ in Falls Church, VA. This residential site is designed to attract wildlife of all kinds. Each biohabitat provides food, shelter and nesting places that encourage pollinator species and extend wildlife corridors. All water is retained on site and directed into permeable paving or a large bioretention area massed with native plants. Carved out of existing wetlands, the 1700SF pond is surrounded by water plants providing cool areas for fish to congregate. ‘Habitat House’ is also used for sustainable education tours emphasizing how sustainable strategies like planting native species and soil and water management create low maintenance, cost effective projects as ecosystem services are balanced and function properly.
